PROFESSIONALLY SPEAKING

I

Raga D’Silva is a writer, storyteller and creative activist whose work is increasingly concerned with the stories we carry, the histories we inherit and the lives that can so easily disappear from public memory.

Her work today has been shaped by more than three decades spent across countries, cultures and industries, and by a life that has rarely followed a predictable route. She has worked across media, marketing, communications, sponsorship, fundraising and storytelling in 11 countries, experiences that eventually brought her to the work she feels most compelled to do now: creating spaces where stories that have been overlooked, particularly those of older LGBTQ+ people, can be heard, recorded and remembered.

Raga is the co-founder of Older Queer Voices, which she created with her wife, Nicola Fenton. What began with conversations about the absence of older LGBTQ+ people from so much of public and community life has grown into a platform bringing those voices into podcasts, live events, festivals, research,  roundtables and intergenerational conversations.

🎙 Media & Shows

I have been featured across BBC UK (including BBC Hindi and regional language services), Sky TVITVChannel 4, and TVNZ, as well as various radio and digital platforms in the UK, India, and New Zealand.

I also host my own successful YouTube talk shows under Totally Out Now, including:

  • From the Other Side – with global changemakers and Bollywood stars
  • Coming Out Stories from India
  • And previously, My Pride, Your Pride

🗣️ Presenting Style

UNTOLD LIES

STORYOEMS – WHEN STORIES BECOME POEMS

I have  lived an unconventional life, so it was apparent that when I decided to write a book I  created my own unconventional format.  ‘Storyoems’ – stories that segue seamlessly into poems.

Emotional and poignant, Untold Lies is about a little girl’s journey to the truth that not only saves her but gives the reader hope. For don’t we all have a little girl in us, confined by the labels given to us by others?

This relatable and courageous book is for anyone who has experienced the fear of being judged or of being unloved for being themselves.

No more lies and no more FEAR.

Every now and again I come across stories that make me stop and think. Raga’s story of love left an impression on me. Untold Lies, the book of storyoems, expresses Raga’s journey of finding love but living a lie out of the fear of being judged.

I recommend this book to all those who live their life in fear and need the courage to speak their truth.

Actor

As someone who has made choices that often challenged convention, I enjoyed Raga’s story. Many will see reflections of their own lives and feel encouraged. Untold Lies is a book everyone should read
